Accounting Specialist

As an Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Accounting Team with daily cash posting and check processing duties along with other assigned tasks.


  • Deposit and process all incoming premium deposit payments not processed by the lockbox vendors.
  • Download lockbox file to review policies and apply payments.
  • Handle lockbox exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile deposits daily to system and provide a formal monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable and associated cash bank accounts.
  • Daily processing of refund checks for insured accounts and processing returns of un-cashable checks.
  • Responsible for processing NSF/stop payments, and other clerical processing of cash items.
  • Processes credit card and electronic check payments and balances daily to system and bank reports.
  • Responsible for inquiries from insureds, agents and customer service agents regarding accounting issues.
  • Ensures all compliance requirements involving the essential functions of the job are met.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships with co-workers, all levels of management, vendors, and service providers.
  • Responsible for printing claims checks daily including processing expedited check requests.
  • Responsible for processing voided claims check requests, maintaining voided check registers and processing voided check requests on multiple banking platforms.
  • Assists and supports the Accounting Team with daily tasks and special projects as assigned.

 Job Requirements

  • 2 – 4 years of administrative experience, previous accounting with homeowner’s insurance experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to work in a multi-state, multi-system environment is required.
  • Ability to use cash control methods.
  • Ability to work with intermediate mathematical concepts.
  • Must be able to take directions and prioritize workload accordingly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
