Desk Adjuster

This position is responsible for the handling of claims. This position will be based out of our St. Petersburg Corporate Office.

We are looking for a team player who is a self-starter, detail oriented, customer focused and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for an experienced desk adjuster/claim examiner that has a solid foundation in claims and is enthusiastic about helping insureds.


  • Investigate and adjust property insurance claims to resolution
  • Handle claims involving full range of perils (Fire, Theft, Vandalism, Hail, Wind, Plumbing, Lightning, Equipment Breakdown, Mold, etc.) and different policy types (HO3, HO4, HO6, DP, BOP)
    • Handle all coverages (Structure, Other Structures, Contents, Additional Living Expense, Additional Coverages)
  • Evaluate coverage and apply to loss
  • Communicates coverage decisions and claim settlements
    • Communicates by telephone, email and written correspondence
  • Review estimates of damage and write estimates for property damage
  • Sets reserves and issues payments where applicable
  • Negotiates with insured, contractors, vendors, public adjusters, attorneys, and assignment of benefits contractors to seek claim resolution
  • Handle represented claims: working with public adjusters, plaintiff attorneys and assignment of benefits contractors
  • Handles claims within company guidelines
  • Communicates with agents and sales team on status of claims
  • Work with experts to assist in claims investigation (Engineers, Technicians, Specialty Trades, Loss Consultants, GC Consultants, etc.)
  • Coordinate claims investigation through task assignment and utilization of field adjuster
  • Documents and reports on claim handling, status and plan of action
  • •Conduct recorded statements where applicable
  • Identify and assist in subrogation recovery
  • Identify and assist in investigation of fraudulent claims
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements for claim handling
  • Maintains adjuster license(s) and continuing education
  • Willingness to be flexible in schedule when needs arise
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 3 years or more claims experience preferred
  • Professional designation preferred (AIC, CPCU, SLA, etc.)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Adjuster License required – Florida License (620)


  • Superior customer service orientation
  • Have knowledge of insurance concepts/coverage
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Xactimate and XactAnalysis
  • Understanding of construction/estimatics and how to assess damage repairs
  • Full working knowledge and computer literacy with understanding of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Policy knowledge and ability to evaluate and determine coverages
  • Superior organization

  • The role will be principally based out of the St. Pete office on a daily basis. However, travel may be required for inspections, conferences, vendor meetings, depositions and other duties.
